Unlike the classic rock–minded Desert Trip festival, which continues this weekend in the Coachella Valley, Desert Daze is more of an underground — and, indeed, more consciously trippy — gathering taking place up in Joshua Tree, on the other side of the Little San Bernardino Mountains. The original schedule boasted an extremely rare performance by Suicide, but, after the death of singer Alan Vega in July, fans will have to be content with a tribute to the adventurous synth-punk duo. Suicide’s NYC peers Television headline Sunday, albeit without prodigiously gifted lead guitarist Richard Lloyd. The rest of the lineup ranges from grunge (Dead Meadow, L.A. Witch, Deap Vally) and punk (The Coathangers, Cherry Glazerr, Feels, Death Valley Girls) to psychedelic, prog and even stranger music-makers (Primus, Deerhunter, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Saul Williams). Also Friday and Sunday, Oct. 14 & 16.
