Desert Daze

Unlike the classic rock–minded Desert Trip festival, which continues this weekend in the Coachella Valley, Desert Daze is more of an underground — and, indeed, more consciously trippy — gathering taking place up in Joshua Tree, on the other side of the Little San Bernardino Mountains. The original schedule boasted an extremely rare performance by Suicide, but, after the death of singer Alan Vega in July, fans will have to be content with a tribute to the adventurous synth-punk duo. Suicide’s NYC peers Television headline Sunday, albeit without prodigiously gifted lead guitarist Richard Lloyd. The rest of the lineup ranges from grunge (Dead Meadow, L.A. Witch, Deap Vally) and punk (The Coathangers, Cherry Glazerr, Feels, Death Valley Girls) to psychedelic, prog and even stranger music-makers (Primus, Deerhunter, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Saul Williams). Also Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16.

With Washed Out, The Sonics, Deerhunter, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Toro y Moi, Beach Fossils, Temples, Suuns, Here We Go Magic, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Bombino, Deakin, Gary Wilson, Mild High Club, Dios, Death Valley Girls, Fartbarf, Kiev, Feels, Cellars, Mind Meld, Solar Sons, Sloppy Jane, Al Lover's Dronal Dissonance, projections by Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show and The Blindspot Project, and a keynote address by Andrew W.K.
