Los Angeles is getting a tasty serving of Latino art and sounds these days. The Getty’s ambitious, citywide Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA examines Latin American and Latino art in depth. Now comes its musical counterpart: the inaugural CDMX Festival, a weeklong series highlighting the past, present and future sounds of Mexico City. CDMX: Now!, one of many curated programs, bridges the country’s colorful musical traditions with modern styles. Mexrrissey, a supergroup of contemporary Mexican musicians, leads the night with its unique reinterpretations of the music of Morrissey and The Smiths, reimagined with a global Latin beat. La Sonora Santanera, one of Mexico City’s most celebrated acts, brings its legendary tropical music to life, while tastemaker electronic label and artist collective N.A.A.F.I spin weirdo house in the Founders Room throughout the evening.
