Latin scene, while also representing their South L.A. hip-hop influences (“buyepongo” — “to cause a ruckus” — is a shout-out to Wu-Tang Clan’s “Bring Da Ruckus”). Joining Buyepongo are Chico Mann, alter ego of Antibalas guitarist Marcos García, and Captain Planet, DJ and self-described “purveyor of gumbo funk,” a mix of sounds from Brooklyn to Brazil. The DJ lounge will start the party early with KCRW’s Anthony Valadez and Subsuelo, the global bass party crew mixing hip-hop, cumbia and tropical funk textures.
