Obama: An Intimate Portrait. Souza was the White House photographer during the Reagan administration. He later began photographing then-senator from Illinois Barack Obama before becoming chief official White House photographer for President Obama. Culled from nearly two million photographs, the 300-plus images in the book, which features a foreword by Obama, document nearly every public and private aspect of the president’s two terms: on international trips, with staff in the Oval Office, with world leaders and celebrities and with his wife and daughters — even the family pet. Souza especially captures the pivotal moments from Obama’s presidency, from his inauguration in 2009 to his final departure in 2017, and all the crucial events in between, including the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and watching the raid on Osama bin Laden in the Situation Room in 2011.
