Since its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1983, Born in Flames has become a feminist benchmark and a perennial subject of academic inquiry. Lizzie Borden's $40,000 wonder envisions an unspecified future in which women have been dispersed and demoralized, setting the stage for an urban guerrilla to commandeer a national newscast and stoke the flames of revolution. Cinefamily has a 35mm print newly restored by Anthology Film Archives that's sure to do justice to its coarse-grained, street-level aesthetic. Borden will appear in person.
