  • E.B.

    E.B.'s Bar

6333 W. Third St. Los Angeles, CA 90036
    323-549-2156

http://www.farmersmarketbars.com/wine-beer-bar.htm Farmer's Market's old-timey ambiance is made all the better with a beer buzz, and regulars at these two adjacent bars know this only too well. You can fill up on domestic brewskies and wines at 326, and more exotic fare at EB's, but the patio next to both is where you'll want to linger regardless of your poison. A chill sipper's oasis from the tourist-, family- and senior-packed chaos of other outdoor dining areas here at 3rd and Fairfax (not to mention the shopoholic swirl of The Grove), 326 and EB's do get lively during Happy Hour and during its holiday-themed parties, karaoke nights and band showcases. Check website for schedule. More >>

  • Cafe Gratitude

    Cafe Gratitude

639 N. Larchmont Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90004
    323-580-6383

http://www.cafegratitude.com At Café Gratitude, situated at the northernmost edge of yoga-friendly Larchmont Village, you can take in the scene for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seven days a week. The seasonally changing menu is broken down to raw and cooked dishes, all of which are vegan and made with organic ingredients. They’re also given affirmation-based titles such as “I am Pure” (Kale, nori and cucumber salad) and “I am Transformed” (corn tacos with cashew nacho cheese). The always present dish “I am Grateful”– a bowl of quinoa, kale and black beans -- is offered for $3, but if you choose to pay more, the difference goes “to feed someone in need.” The general slant of the menu is California-Mexican with all of the requisite nut cheeses, grasses, sprouts, seeds and berries to make it as healthful, colorful and filling as possible. There is a full juice bar and coffee, with California beers and wine served as well. More >>

    El Rey Theatre

5515 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90036
    323-936-6400

http://www.theelrey.com Located on the Miracle Mile in the Mid-Wilshire district, the El Rey is indeed something of an architectural miracle. Designed by the noted architect Clifford A. Balch in 1936, the art deco venue boasts a Streamline Moderne design, with sleek contours and a classically elegant exterior and interior. For more than 60 years, it was used mainly as a movie theater, but in 1994 it was reconfigured as a live-music concert hall. Since then, the room, which holds about 700 people, has hosted such diverse musicians as Iggy Pop, Neko Case, Radio Birdman, Wanda Jackson & Jack White, Buzzcocks, the Dresden Dolls, Wire, Emmylou Harris, Mission of Burma and the Avengers. An upstairs VIP balcony looks down over the grand ballroom, which is sided by plush red walls and illuminated by several gigantic glass chandeliers. The all-ages venue usually features standing-room admission, with a few booths located along the sides. The ballroom has a full bar, and another full bar is based in the venue's fancy art deco lobby, which includes a dramatic staircase that leads to the balcony. Street parking, plus paid parking in a lot across the street. More >>
