A boozy oasis melding Rat Pack-ish retro style with contemporary grooves, The Blue Room is -as one might expect- very, very blue inside. Shiny turquoise booths and tables coordinate with azure lighting to creating an aquarium-like atmosphere that is only enhanced by the stiff, cheap drinks here (cash only). There's a lot to look at inside and out: the lush back patio is popular for smoking and socializing and the furrowed steel exterior and great old fashioned neon signage makes Blue Room one of the snazziest looking dives in the area. The crowd, however sees a lot of old timers and Burbank locals most days and evenings. Those looking for a sea of scenesters or to hook up, should dive into the Blue on weekends. http://www.dimplesshowcase.com If your idea of a fun night out is listening to tipsy and tone-deaf amateurs warbling their way through an Adele song – or, even better, doing the warbling yourself – Dimples in Burbank claims to be the oldest karaoke bar in the country. It's been open since 1982. The décor here is ‘80s-style red booths, vintage film equipment and props and plenty of screens to watch the succession of wannabe singers. The menu is mostly upscale bar food: appetizers like jalapeno poppers, cheese sticks and nachos, in addition to sandwiches, pizza and steak. You can get “2 buck beer” and “2 buck off appetizers” during happy hour. Monday is ladies’ night and Tuesday is men’s night. If you’re not too embarrassed to watch your rendition of “Chain of Fools,” the restaurant offers free DVDs to virgin customers. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
http://www.gordonbiersch.com With a microbrewery on the premises and a kitchen full of specialties, you can't go wrong here. Start with a hummus and goat cheese salad - fire-roasted peppers, kalamata olives, dunkle-beer vinaigrette, served over warm flatbread ($9.95), or try the 14-oz. New York steak, served with beer-battered onion rings, garlic mashed potatoes and house steak sauce ($20.95). For dessert there's the warm apple bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream and caramel sauce ($5.95). Gordon Biersch specializes in German-style lagers, so taste the Marzen ($4.25 a pint), billed as "the original Oktoberfest beer." Lunch and dinner seven days. Full bar; takeout; catering; valet parking; reservations recommended on weekends. AE, MC, DC, DIS, V. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
http://www.pickwickgardens.com The Pickwick Ice Center is part of the larger Pickwick Gardens (which includes a bowling alley, lush gardens and banquet facilities) and features one of Southern California's best ice-skating rinks. Not only is Pickwick Ice a fun place for budding hockey and figure-skating stars (as well as the general public) to practice their twizzles and lutzes, the venue often hosts major figure-skating competitions with local competitors and even the occasional Olympic champion. No matter what your level of skill is on the ice, the Center's Ice Cafe is a casual and restful place to find your legs again when you're off the ice. The cafe serves pizza and sodas, and becomes a full bar during big events and competitions. All ages. Free parking in the Ice Center's lot and in the adjoining Gardens' large lot. http://www.sardosbar.com Sardos Grill and Lounge is best known for the array of karaoke nights that fill up its weekly calendar. Mondays plastic game controllers accompany the crooning during its "Rockband" Karaoke, but plastic of a different sort comes out for Tuesday's PSK ("Porn Star Karaoke") which packs the place with buxom babes and the dudes who love to watch them. Best singers win free adult DVDs. Just don't confuse Tuesdays with Fridays (Fri. is family night and kids are welcome to take the mic until 9:30). The menu consists of perennial Italian favorites (pizza, calamari), though most come for the reasonably priced drinks. There is ample restaurant-style seating inside, but on Tuesdays, it's reserved for "the industry" so expect standing room only these nights. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
http://www.smokehouse1946.com Time didn't just stop at this 1950s Burbank steakhouse; it died from all the cheesy bread. This is thick-cut stuff, laced with funky garlic and welded together with cheese. From your sunken position inside a slick red vinyl booth, it can be hard to see over the piles and piles of cheesy bread to the grilled steaks and fatty cuts of prime rib that have kept The SmokeHouse in business for more than 60 years. But they're there – along with simple potatoes, dry martinis and layers upon layers of Hollywood stories about the old studio days. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
http://www.tonysda.com This Burbank bar has seen it all. In the '60s, Tony's was a classic Valley dive bar, attracting the kind of folks who'd start drinking at six in the morning. More than 40 years later, it's has been treated to a face-lift by its new owner, who just so happens to be named Tony. These days, Tony's Darts Away is less gin joint and more California craft-beer bar and restaurant, with over 30 local beers on tap, including a selection that rotates daily. Proprietor Tony Yanow's motto is "bringing the fine beers of California to the fine people of Los Angeles." Tony's also has a wide variety of regional wines. Tony's serves local sausages that come with a huge range of toppings, and the place has become a vegan destination as well, owing to four different kinds of meat-free sausages. Most everything at Tony's is sourced in California. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
http://www.vivacantina.com Snug beside the Equestrian Center (riders frequently tether their mounts outside), this Mexican restaurant features top country musicians in its ranch-style front bar. Cody Bryant, Kathy Robertson, Jimmy Lee Harris, Lisa Finnie and the legendary truck-driving bard Red Simpson are among the many national and local country musicians who've appeared at this unpretentious Burbank watering hole, which is located by Griffith Park and close to several nearby stables. The club presents a weekly bluegrass night and the monthly rock-country-roots roundup the Messaround. Decorated with horse-themed memorabilia, the dining room specializes in Mexican cuisine, and diners and drinkers can also sit for a spell in Viva Cantina's outdoor patio. The full bar features a wide range of beers, and the proprietors boast that they've got "lots of tequila" on hand. The owners may joke that "service is sporadic but sincere," but the overall vibe is welcoming and low key, and there is no dress code. Free parking is available in Viva Cantina's lot and in Pickwick Recreation Center across the street. No cover. All ages. Read more about this Los Angeles bar or club >>
