Perched on the edge of Santa Monica, Trip is indeed a trip. From the outside, it looks like an everyday neighborhood bar, but the club is actually one of the Westside's leading hot spots, with nightly no-cover live music, comedy and burlesque.
The Redwood Bar & Grill
A longtime haunt for politicians and journalists, this downtown bar hosts an endless parade of punks and roots rockers on its small, low stage, set against a festively nautical backdrop of fishing nets and mermaid paintings.
The Satellite

213-687-4444The Venice outpost of this perpetually pressed-in downtown sausage and beer hall can often feel just as cramped with lithe young drinkers, but the best moments at Wurstküche come during those in-between hours. The exotic sausages (rattlesnake-and-rabbit, anyone?) and twice-fried Belgian frites are fantastic any time, but you'd certainly have more room to swallow in the post-lunch, pre-dinner weekday hours. The open brickwork, easy wood lines and frosted glass seem more inviting when the room has thinned a bit, and you'll actually have time to peruse the carefully constructed beer list. Fan favorites like La Chouffe and Chimay are offered on tap, while bottles of Kwak and Aventinus remain popular options.
