80's October Surprise Nostalgia

Once upon a time there was a man named Multinational Corporate Interests who liked to play with dolls. His favorite doll looked like a geriatric Raggedy Andy and was named Reagan. One day, Multinational decided to dress up Reagan as President of All the Land. But there was a problem: Carter the Humanist was already wearing the presidential outfit. Now, it happened at this time that some bad people had kidnapped some other people and were holding them hostage. Carter the Humanist, who, being president, was in charge of the United States Army, had devised a plan to rescue the kidnapped people with helicopters in October. Not only would this be a good thing for the hostages, it would surely create enough hoopla for bovine America to re-elect Carter in November, which tends to follow October. But Multinational Corporate Interests, who were in charge not only of Reagan but of the CIA, devised a simple plan to make Reagan win the election. STEP 1: Make a deal with the kidnappers, agreeing to give them shitloads of weapons and money and whatever else they wanted if, no matter what Carter does, they wait to release the hostages until after Reagan's inauguration; STEP 2: Have the CIA sabotage the Army's helicopters by pouring corrosives into the wiring, so that instead of rescuing the kidnapped people, the helicopter engines reach a certain temperature then burst into flames and crash, killing the occupants, causing bovine America to turn on Humanist Carter and elect Reagan. Check your records: The hostages were released approximately 10 minutes after Reagan was sworn in as president.
