You'll Fall on Your Knees
Did Christ ever laugh? You always see him looking so serene in all those paintings, but you never hear about him telling jokes. Pity the poor Savior! Well, now you can one-up Jesus: The Alex Film Society presents its second annual Cartoon Hall of Fame Big Screen Event. Two and a half hours' worth of cartoons in a motion-picture palace is the perfect way to make it through the holiday season. Hosted by tireless animation historian Jerry Beck and producer Frank Gladstone, it's a program of cartoons as they were meant to be experienced: as a communal laugh riot at 24 frames per second. Some of the 35 mm classics scheduled: Popeye Meets Ali Baba (1937), Lonesome Ghosts (Mickey, Donald & Goofy, 1937), Woody Woodpecker (1941), Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Mouse (Tom & Jerry, 1947), Mother Goose's Birthday Party (Mighty Mouse, 1950), Gerald McBoing-Boing (1951), What's Opera, Doc? (Bugs Bunny & Elmer Fudd, 1957), and many, many more. It's fun for all the family oh, all right, Jesus. You can come, too. Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale; Mon., Dec. 26, 2 & 7 p.m., $15, $12.50, seniors, students, kids. (818) 243-2539, alextheatre.org.
