You Oughtta Be in Pictures
These days there are a million and one ways to take a picture or to be more specific, to make a photograph from high-quality camera phones, to cutting edge digital imaging, awesome 3-D magic, the romance of vanishing low-tech processes like Polaroid instant film, and the resurgent interest in analog and antique methods as a kind of reaction perhaps to the digital and virtual revolution. Whatever the reason, as this year's annual MOPLA (Month of Photography Los Angeles) winds down, there's no doubt that photography is the closest thing humanity has to a universal language and that's just what the annual "Snap Flash: Create:Fixate All Photography Show" seeks to celebrate. Regularly the most popular of C:F's bimonthly giant art and music events, Snap Flash welcomes dozens of talented photographers who run the stylistic gamut, plus special guest artist, rock and roll romantic Dean Karr, video installation, live portraiture, student work from C:F community partner A Place Called Home, and photo-cyborg performance art by Tiffany Trenda. With a family-friendly preview from 4 to 7 p.m., and dance-friendly electronic and world grooves from DJs including KCRW's Garth Trinidad and Milan Records' JC Chambordeon, there will be plenty of chances to take some new pictures of your own, so charge up that iPhone. Premiere Events Center, 613 Imperial St., dwntwn.; Sat., April 28, 7 p.m.-2 a.m.; $20, $15 before 9 p.m. createfixate.com.
Sat., April 28, 7 p.m., 2012
