Xavier Veilhan's Architectones

It's fair to say Paris-based artist Xavier Veilhan is obsessed with architecture. And for the past few weeks, he's been enjoying that obsession every day, as he and his family have taken up residence at the landmark Neutra House while installing his new exhibit. A propertywide intervention that encompasses both the structures and the grounds as well as its views, innovative design details and history of the location. Veilhan's Architectones deploys a series of abstract and more figurative sculptural elements in evocative gestures that highlight and augment key points in their surroundings. Drawing inspiration in sources as diverse as 20th-century Modernism and contemporary pop culture, the L.A. iteration of the project (there are plans for residencies all over the world) also features a soundtrack composed by Nicolas Godin of the band Air, and events throughout the exhibition including a piano concert (Aug. 24) and film screening (Sept. 7), further activating the living spaces of this often-studied location once occupied by Neutra and his own family. The idea here is not only to create a unique interdisciplinary exhibition but also to involve all the senses in a holistic experience that gives the setting a chance to shine.
