Who Will Win? (Let's Hope Not Improv)
"There is a rivalry between stand-up comics and improv comics. Most of the time it's silly, as a lot of stand ups do improv and improvisers do stand up, but the division remains. The rivalry is often bigger in the minds of fans of each discipline more so than to the performers themselves. And that is a big reason why IMPRO(vs)TANDUP exists, to show fans of each discipline that both improv and stand up are great!" explains IMPRO(vs)TANDUP creator and host Christian Spicer. After the comics and improv-ers do their respective things, the roles are reversed and the audience picks a winner. What have been some highlights? "When Guy Branum, Michael Kosta, and Nick Rutherford – all stand ups – had to go up and improvise a scene. They took an audience suggestion and then just had fun with it, turning the shows' 'rules' on their heads as each comedian launched into his own stand-up routine on the suggestion, acting as if the other comic wasn't even on stage." This go-round the lineup is Robert Dassie, Rich Talarico, Craig Cackowski, a.k.a. Darariski (pictured) for improv; and standup represented by Fahim Anwar and Sean Conroy, Nerdmelt at Meltdown Comics, 7522 W Sunset Blvd., Hlywd.; Fri., Nov. 16. 9 pm.; $10, $8 in advance.
