Today Is Jason's Birthday
In the hair-raising, limb-slashing world of classic horror, one date will live in infamy: Friday the 13th. That cube on the calendar and its namesake film franchise have already lived through 12 (not 13, somehow) films, more implausible plot turns than Sharknado and enough fake blood to fill Echo Park Lake. All of that scary success can be chalked up to the man behind the hockey mask, Jason Voorhees, a killer so relentless and so expressionless that he stayed onscreen intermittently for 29 years -- approximately 29 years longer than any of his victims. The American Cinematheque celebrates this Friday the 13th at the Aero Theatre with a mini-marathon, complete with costume and scream contests, dedicated to the first (and arguably best) four films in the franchise. Note: That includes the one starring Corey Feldman, if not the one produced by Michael Bay. Chances are it will be a scream. Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica; Fri., Sept. 13, 5 p.m.; $13. (323) 466-3456, americancinemathequecalendar.com.
Fri., Sept. 13, 5 p.m., 2013
