The Un-Private Collection: Eric Fischl and Steve Martin

Actor-comedian Steve Martin earned his reputation as "a wild and crazy guy" from his 1978 comedy routine and double-platinum album of the same name. Artist Eric Fischl, on the other hand, takes his "bad boy" moniker from his 2013 memoir, the title of which is an allusion to his 1981 oil painting of a young boy with a naked woman. Martin and Fischl are close friends who have long admired one another's work. A collector of Fischl's paintings - along with works by Pablo Picasso, Edward Hopper and Willem de Kooning - Martin even began appearing in Fischl's paintings in recent years, in a curious case of art imitating life. The wild and crazy guy will interview his favorite bad-boy painter tonight during the Broad's Un-Private Collection lecture series. While the 8 p.m. talk is sold out, unclaimed tickets will be released on a first come, first served basis to those in a rush line, which will form outside the Broad Stage at 5:30 p.m. Can't make it to the rush line? Snag Fischl's autograph at a 1 p.m. Bad Boy book signing at KM Fine Art; then stream the Broad talk live online and ask wild and crazy questions via Twitter using the hashtag #FischlMartin.
