The Road to Bali
Celebrating the beauty, art and culture of Indonesia -- or Indo'nesia, as we like to call it on this St. Patrick's Day -- is the Free Family Festival, which dovetails nicely with the Pacific Asia Museum's exhibition "Marking Transitions: Ceremonial Art in Indonesia." A nation that's made up of more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia here presents an entire day of crafting, native foods and live gamelan music, not to mention the serene and graceful shadow puppetry for which Indonesia is so rightly acclaimed. If you've never tried Indonesian food, you're in for a treat. Influenced by the flavors of the Middle East, China, India and its European colonizers, it's some of the tastiest cuisine around. Pacific Asia Museum, 46 N. Los Robles Ave., Pasadena; Sun., March 17, noon-4 p.m.; free. (626) 449-2742, pacificasiamuseum.org.
Sun., March 17, 12-4 p.m., 2013
