The Man Behind the Taco Truck
Celebrity chefs are easy to come by. Every city has a roster of weathered hands that could be nominated for cooking challenges and culinary tours -- but few possess the revolutionary ideas and willingness to act on them of Roy Choi. Choi made his mark elevating the classic roach coach with revolutionary Korean BBQ tacos from the window of his Kogi truck. Now he has a fleet of trucks from Irvine to Northridge and a handful of sit-down restaurants in places both likely (Venice) and un- (Chinatown). His newly published book, L.A. Son: My Life, My City, My Food, is part cookbook, part memoir and all love letter to this sprawl we call home.
