The Loudest Movie Ever
A long simmering cinematic catastrophe celebrating the aural haematoma of Bean Town slam-hound culture, the new documentary xxx All Agesxxx The Boston Hardcore Film is a fascinatin' hunk of punk in several different aspects. While bristling with a blizkrieg of high-volume early '80s audio aggro from the likes of SS Decontrol, Jerry's Kids, DYS and Gang Green, this mosh mad celluloid extravaganza goes a refreshingly unusual route, focusing not on the musicians and soundtrack of the day so much as it does the dog-eatted misfits and miserable meatheads who comprised the very contents of the pit itself. While tarted up by critics as an exploration of "the straight-edge and DIY ethos in pre-internet Reagan America," the film is essentially an examination of a region-specific clan of desperate, mixed up, out of control kids -- with all cussing, fussing and and pontificating done in that rad, mad, wildly colorful local accent. Along with the screenings you also get a hardcore "Q & A" gabfest with director Drew Stone and DYS survivors Jonathan Anastas and Dave Smalley (also of Dag Nasty, All, Down By Law infamy) and SS Decontrol's Jaime Sciarappa (on Friday), and more from Stone, Sciarappa, plus Music Supervisor Donna Lee on Sat.
