The Lighter Side of Dubya

The words "intimate" and "amusing" aren't necessarily the first words one thinks of when one thinks of George W. Bush, but once upon a time, apparently, he was a fun guy. And Genghis Khan wasn't always Genghis Khan, and Alfred Nobel wasn't always Alfred Nobel. Tonight's screening of Journeys With George (2003) presents an "intimate and amusing" ramble filmed with Dubya for a year as he embarks on the 2000 presidential campaign, before everything went ... well, you know how that went. Directed by Alexandra Pelosi — Representative Nancy's daughter, who shows up on Real Time With Bill Maher from time to time and who still makes fairly interesting documentaries — and Aaron Lubarsky, who's taken a break from documentaries lately. Journeys With George won an Emmy. It's only 79 minutes long. Can you stand it? Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Wstwd.; Wed., Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m.; free. (310) 443-7000, hammer.ucla.edu.
