The Definite Article

The The Show is not a tribute to the British band that did the song "Uncertain Smile," but instead comedian Mo Welch's showcase of L.A. comedy laboring incessantly on the fringes. Sounds more interesting, no? Through improv, grammatical gymnastics and character creation, it packs into a concentrated 30 minutes of risk-taking content from the minds of distressingly tressed Canadian UCB alum Alana Johnston, Indiana indie comic and End of the World Show (out of Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood) host Ben Bizuneh, irrepressibly dry occasional Columbia College professor Jet Eveleth, deathlessly astute Lifetime Channel parodist Aggie Hewitt and Toronto comic Pat Thornton, who once did standup for charity for 24 hours. Talk about dedication! This is comedy's next wave of champions -- ignore them at your peril. Comedy Central Stage, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd., Hlywd.; Wed., Oct. 16, 8 p.m.; free with RSVP.
