The 21st Annual Brazilian Summer Festival

Father's Day falls on the same day as a sizzling summer festival that celebrates the best of Brazilian music, which is set to coincide with the opening weekend of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. South America's largest country, Brazil features a healthy mix of Latin and South American, European, African, Asian and indigenous cultures. Sports aside (Rio de Janeiro also hosts the Olympic Games in 2016), samba is still the country's most prized cultural commodity, defining not only a musical style but also an energetic brand of dance to go along with the rhythmic music. Whether you're a sports fan, dance lover or samba music freak, Brazil is still more than 5,000 miles away, so it's easier to celebrate the best of Brazilian cultural heritage right here in L.A. with the 21st annual Brazilian Summer Festival at the open-air Ford Amphitheatre. Bring a picnic and relax with live music from top DJs and musicians, flashy costumes, dancing and plenty of soccer-inspired spectacles. If Dad's not into that? Well, this is one venue in town that lets you BYOB. Maybe just placate him with scotch? Ford Theater, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East, Hlywd.; Sun., June 15, doors open 5 p.m., show at 7 p.m.; $25 ($35 at the door), $12 children. (818) 566-1111, fordtheatres.org/en/events/details/id/837.
