Stuff Straight People Like
L.A. actor and author Jeffery Self flips gay stereotypes as he reads from his new book, Straight People: A Spotter's Guide to the Fascinating World of Heterosexuals, a sort of parody of field guides for anyone who wants to study "opposite-sex couples." Employing both gaydar and its straight equivalent -- straydar? -- Self breaks down the basics on breeders into chapters on lifestyle, habitats, migration patterns, and calls and songs, accompanied by lists, charts, illustrations and SAT-style quizzes. For example, heteros use Axe Body Spray to attract a mate. They tend to migrate to places like Las Vegas, Daytona Beach, Cancun and Orlando, which "is to the Heterosexual family what Vegas is to the Heterosexual alcoholic." And as part of their feeding habits, "Heterosexuals are the people who thought up all-you-can-eat buffets, bottomless salads and breadsticks at Olive Garden, and cake pops (for the Heterosexual on the go who loves cake but is too busy to spend all that time slicing a piece, finding a fork and consuming all that icing)."
