Old Hollywood -- the real Hollywood once populated by Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Ramon Navarro, Gloria Swanson, Don Ameche, Claire Trevor and innumerable others -- gets a major resurrection thanks to the annual CineCon Festival. Now in its 49th year, this celluloid cultural stampede features hundreds of hours of screenings of unusual and uniformly fascinating treasures. All lensed between 1910 and 1949 and painstakingly selected from film archives and studio vaults, the movies include every genre -- screwball, oaters, tearjerkers, swashbucklers, shoot-'em-ups. The movies screen at the Egyptian Theatre and the nearby Loews Hollywood Hotel hosts a horde of memorabilia and collectible dealers, along with a heavy slate of author events, featuring celeb actors like Partridge Family matriarch Shirley Jones (who receives Cinecon's Career Achievement Award at a Sept. 1 banquet) and the Creature From the Black Lagoon's love interest, Julia Adams, along with dozens of lesser luminaries and fabulously fixated biographers and researchers. It's five days of old-school Tinseltown nirvana. Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; screenings begin Thurs., Aug. 29, 2 p.m., and continue through Sun., Sept. 1; $110 registration required for all access at both venues, screening day passes $25 Thurs. & Mon., $35 Fri.-Sun.; (323) 466-3456, cinecon.org.
