RICKY DON'T LOSE THAT NUMBER

Premier prestidigitator Ricky Jay's latest show, A Rogue's Gallery — An Evening of Conversation and Performance, is one in which he opens up in such an expansive way that it's not a trick. Directed by David Mamet, the show, which runs for only two weeks, is, as magic requires, something involving no small amount of audience participation in its execution. One might think that openness is the enemy of sleight of hand, but since the performance involves Jay unveiling his collection of treasures, every pair of dice and every disappearance carry with it a story of great personal and cosmological importance. Tonight you'll see him as never before: as vulnerable as Houdini before the final trick but no less strong. Absolutely no one younger than 17 is admitted to this performance — no matter what magic you think you've performed on that fake ID of yours.
Sundays, 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Tue., Jan. 5, 8 p.m. Starts: Dec. 27. Continues through Jan. 10, 2009
