When San Francisco's Gauntlet Gallery showed "ReDiscovery: An Art Show Inspired by Daft Punk" earlier this month, a parade-like queue of fantastical hipster haircuts snaked around the block. Fans of Daft Punk's quirky intelligentsia-rock demonstrated a dazzling range of styles and interpretations of the band's infectious, futuristic, nerd-sexy aesthetic. And it's not just the fans in attendance who show creativity: From portraiture to more abstract visions born of the fever dreams and possibly chemically enhanced fugue states that come with repeated listening, the artwork itself is quite accomplished -- worth seeing even without the soundtrack thematics. That said, amid the considerable allure and eye-candy ambitions of the exhibition, if the S.F. reception is anything to judge by, the people-watching at tonight's one-night-only, DTLA pop-up edition should be epic.
