Peter and the Wolf Revisited
No, not the Prokofiev. It's a brand-new composition by Alan Chapman, well-known commentator and voice of KUSC-FM, and Chamber Music Palisades performs its world premiere this week. Chapman himself narrates the "tongue-in-cheek" work for quintet and narrator that tells the story of an eighth-grade student named Peter, his science teacher named Mr. Wolf, and a frantic scramble to come up with a science project. "It ranges from the lyrical to the wacky," notes Chapman, which is no surprise, as that pretty much describes him too. The program also includes works for flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn, oboe and piano by Muczynski, Danzi, Rossini and Gernot Wolfgang. St. Matthew's Church, 1031 Bienveneda Ave., Pacific Palisades; Tues., Oct. 28, 8 p.m.; $25, students free. (310) 459-2070, www.cmpalisades.org.
Tue., Oct. 28, 8 p.m., 2008
