As much conjurer as choreographer, Trey McIntyre first mesmerized the dance world with his dramatic and seductive productions, then established his own eponymous company, eschewing the big cities for the unlikely locale of Boise, Idaho, from where his chamber troupe has toured the United States, and most recently attracted funding from the U.S. Department of State to tour Asia. Trey McIntyre Project has become a familiar feature at SoCal venues, including the Hollywood Bowl with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and a 2009 residency at Orange County's Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, which included a multimedia, site-specific episode with the audience following the dancers out of the theater onto the adjoining plaza. Another site-specific event is part of this visit, along with Ladies & Gentlemen inspired by progressive parenting espoused in Free to Be You and Me, the duet Bad Winter, and another new work tentatively titled Unkindness of Ravens that came out of the recent Asia tour and finds dancers from the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company joining McIntyre's dancers. Come early for co-founder John Michael Schert's free preview talk one hour before each show then catch the conjurer’s most recent magic tricks.
