ONLY THE SHADOE KNOWS
If you grew up in Los Angeles during the early 1980s, there were few faces as ubiquitous as Shadoe Stevens'. Prior to his national stint as the announcer of The New Hollywood Squares, the exdisc jockey starred as "Fred Rated" in a inventive, daftly brilliant series of commercials for now-defunct electronics chain the Federated Group. When you came in from playing to watch Family Film Festival or snuck out of bed to peep Elvira's Movie Macabre, those ads were practically as anticipated as the feature. The dulcet-voiced Stevens and his creative team cranked out a staggering 1,000+ spots in only a few years, graduating quickly from his goofy fast-talking sales pitches for $800 VCRs to quick-fire spoofs of everything from '50s sci-fi B-movies to Hee Hawstyle hick humor. In conjunction with Hidden Los Angeles, Cinefamily welcomes Stevens and his crew to its house for TV Tuesday: A Tribute To Shadoe Stevens. The team will participate in a Q&A and present a reel of those Federated classics, plus the rarely seen 1986 cable special Shadoevision.
