MAKE US LAUGH FUNNY BOY: GLENN WOOL
The Canadian comic living in London makes a rare L.A. appearance this week.
LAW : Wool what kind of name is that?
WOOL: It was changed at the Canadian border when my fathers family fled Estonia to avoid living under Stalin after the war. It's actually vool but it's legally Wool.
You kinda look like a badass. Do you get in many fights?
Nah, you don't have to if you look like you know what you're doing.
Does it bother you when people think you're American?
Only if I think they're doing it on purpose, but really nationalism is retarded so you can't get too worked up about heritage. It's what the arms dealers want you to do.
Why did you decide to move to London?
It's the best comedy scene in the world. Stand-up is a respected art form there. You can really stretch yourself into a pure performer doing everything for the right reasons. That, and some drug debts.
How famous are you there?
I don't know how famous I am, but I was just introduced to Alan Moore who is a personal hero of mine and he knew who I was. If you don't know who Alan Moore is, he's the chap who wrote From Hell, The Watchmen, and V is For Vendetta.
Who do people think you look like?
It's shifted over the years. I used to change my look a lot until I was looking at a poster for The Royal Tenenbaums that had all of the ensemble on it and I realized that I had run all of the different looks. I kinda slowed down after that epiphany.
What do you do when in L.A.?
I visit my car that has been in the long stay at LAX for far too long to justify the purchase.
If you were offered a sitcom based on your life, what would it be called and what would it be about?
It would be about a guy who didn't want to be in sitcom until some of his friends starred in them and he saw how nice their houses were. It would be called The Reality of TV.
