MAKE US LAUGH, FUNNY BOY!
Marc Maron started his WTF podcast in September 2009. Since then it's had more than 8.5 million downloads, with nearly 230,000 listeners per week. This month's guests: June 28: With Rob Huebel, Neil Hamburger, Seth Morris, Eddie Pepitone and Jim Earl.
L.A. WEEKLY: You are one of the most respected comics out there. Why do you think that is?
MARC MARON: I think it's because I can't help but be myself. There's not much between who I am in life and who I am on stage. There's an immediacy to my emotions. By virtue of that, there is a tension. Comedy is releasing tension on some level. I do that in front of people and certain people enjoy it.

My mother listens and that is how she knows what is going on in my life. My father can't seem to figure out how to listen, which is good because I call him and record it for the show. If he knew he was on, we wouldn't have the same type of conversations.
What have you sacrificed for the sake of your comedy?
Security, sanity, emotional stability and the ability to act appropriately in most situations.
What would most surprise your fans to learn about you?
They actually know just about everything
If you could eliminate one over-used standup comedy premise, what would it be?
I think any premise can be made unique by a good comic. I do cat jokes, but they are MY cat jokes.
Who are some of your dream guests on WTF?
Alec Baldwin, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, Will Ferrell, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Garry Shandling. Can you make that happen?

Last Tuesday of every month, 8 p.m., 2011
