Laughing for a Good Cause
It's like those old Westerns where the antiheroes come to the rescue of a far-off town whose residents might never even know their names or laugh at their jokes: OneWorld's second annual Night of (At Least) 18 Laughs is here again to help the charity fulfill its goal of making a difference in the lives of children in need the world over. Education, athletics and green technologies are bullet points shot out of this particular pistol of an evening, and the tickets to tonight's comedy extravaganza also augur a raffle of hotel stays, handbags, Major League Baseball games and Jimmy Kimmel, who probably would play soccer with those kids if someone would let him. The attractions: a rare Tenacious D acoustic set, Jeffrey Ross (who seems too brutal for charity -- but he surprised everyone with that weight loss, so who knows?), the incisive cross-cultural comedy of Ali Wong, the writerly stylings of humorist Dana Gould, MacGruber survivor Will Forte and host Kevin Nealon, who always seems too well-adjusted and happy to be doing that whole comedy thing. Largo at the Coronet, 366 N. La Cienega Blvd.; Sun., April 28, 7:30 p.m.; $100 & $150. (310) 855-0350, onekidoneworld.org/largo2013.
