Laugh Your Way to 2013
Everyone knows L.A. turns into a ghost town over the holidays, and if you're stuck here while all your friends are off someplace way more festive, you face another conundrum: Stay in or go out on New Year's Eve? In a city as big as ours with no central gathering spot, it's hard finding just the right thing to do. The Groundlings New Year's Eve Spectacular makes it easier for you. For $100, you get to laugh, drink at an open bar and eat hors d'oeuvres. Sure, you can do some of that at home (Ryan Seacrest in Times Square isn't going to make fun of himself). But you'll be watching more than a dozen professionals. And in the theater's 38-year history, some of those professionals have included Will Ferrell, Kathy Griffin, Kristin Wiig, Paul Reubens, Lisa Kudrow and Melissa McCarthy. Tonight, director and MC Karen Maruyama heads up a cast some of their credits include The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, 2 Broke Girls and Raising Hope from the Groundlings' Main Company and Sunday Company, as well as special guests. They'll be performing sketch and improv shows. Your ticket also includes a champagne toast, so you can clink to a new year without any mass shootings, tropical storms or Lindsay Lohan running amok on Lifetime. The Groundlings, 7307 Melrose Ave., Hlywd.; Mon., Dec. 31, 9 p.m.; $100. (323) 934-4747, groundlings.com
Mon., Dec. 31, 10 p.m., 2012
