KNOWING RAYMOND SCOTT
We know about the works of the great artists da Vinci, Charles Kuralt, Freddie Laker but rarely do we hear about how their artistic triumphs affected their own families. To wit: Stan Warnow, son of avant/cartoon composer Raymond Scott, screens his 2010 film Deconstructing Dad The Music, Machine & Mystery of Raymond Scott. Warnow, a film editor, has worked on everything from Woodstock to The Wonder Years to The Honeymoon Killers, the brilliant 1970 film about serial killers Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck. Featuring interviews with composer John Williams, Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, Saturday Night Live music director Hal Willner and others, Deconstructing Dad is a poignant, compelling attempt by a son to understand the father for whom art often became like a needy, deeply loved child. Sometimes, the only way to understand an artist is by the process of art itself.
