James Joyce Would've Loved This
Hemingway mastered the art of short fiction in six words: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." Although L.A.'s longest-running spoken-word program, "The New Short Fiction Series," isn't likely to feature such verbally economical literature, it promises equally compelling prose from an impressive array of West Coast writers. The season opener launches tonight at the newly designated Knitting Factory venue, the Federal Bar, with author Elizabeth E. King reading from her book, Real Conversations With Imaginary Friends. Whether her deliciously funny or heart-wrenching words make listeners want to eat with abandon or drown in drink, ample opportunities exist at this gourmet gastropub with 20 craft beers on tap.
