It's a Terrible Life

Sort of like the psychic equivalent of deliberately consuming an oversized hunk of ipecac-laced concrete-based fruitcake, Cinefamily's presentation of deft, daft found-footage freak out "The Everything is Terrible Holiday Special 2012: Cataclysmic Transformation" provides a frantic brain twister of a viewing experience. Most definitely an antidote to rampant commercialism and the too-cute merry making we are all currently confronted with, disturbingly similar to A Clockwork Orange's behavior modification montage therapy the Ludovico Technique, the EIT gang aims to both dazzle and destroy preconceived notions and societal norms — which they manage with a hypnotic, hilarious sense of wrongful glee and surgically precise satirical juxtaposition. An annual assault built upon a solid foundation of seasonal celluloid savagery ("erotic Santas, Nazi elves, misplaced sentimentalities, fistfights over toys-for-tots") this year's edition is goosed up even further with the Mayan threat of Apocalypse and the jolly maniacs assurance that the "stage will be converted into the tackiest winter wonderland imaginable with puppets, sing-a-longs, candy, fake snow, and a visit from the big man himself!" Their dizzying blitzkrieg to reach saturation point is wildly entertaining, and, at the heart of the matter is the EIT collectives somewhat reassuring motto: "If Everything Is Terrible, Then Nothing Is."
