It's a Brand New Year, So Let's All Celebrate the Water Dragon!

Usually when you see what Chinese Zodiac animal represents the year you were born, you get Year of the Stump, or something equally lame. But this year is the Year of the Dragon, which will be celebrated wholeheartedly at the second annual Lunar New Year Festival. It's the Year of the Water Dragon, to be precise -- water, in the Chinese elemental tradition, represents matter in its most inwardly drawn state. This simply means that things are going to change, not wreck your house like in the movie 2012. Will the festival be as contemplative as all that? Not likely: There'll be food trucks (Nom Nom Truck, the Mighty Boba Truck, Paradise Cookies) -- parked, not driving -- along with Lion and Dragon dances, taiko drumming, sumo wrestling and a puppet show by artists visiting from the Jiangsu province of China. Pacific Asia Museum, 46 N. Los Robles Ave., Pasadena; Sat., Jan. 14, 11 a.m., free. (626) 449-2742, pacificasiamuseum.org.
