How I Turned into the Writer I Am Not
Sometimes it feels as if author Geoff Dyer is trying to break the record for most books about the widest range of subjects. He has tackled jazz (But Beautiful), photography (The Ongoing Moment) and D.H. Lawrence (Out of Sheer Rage). Add to that four novels and dozens of essays and you have an author who could confidently sit next to just about anyone at a dinner party. His newest work, Another Great Day at Sea, captures his experience aboard the USS George H.W. Bush, an American aircraft carrier that houses more than 5,000 potential dinner companions. Dyer will be talking with USC screenwriting professor Howard A. Rodman under the heading "How I Turned Into the Writer I Am Not." Sounds like a good subject for another book. Central Library, 630 W. Fifth St., dwntwn.; Thu., June 26, 7:15 p.m.; free, book is $24.95. (213) 228-7025, lfla.org.
