Have Yourself a Bloody Little New Year

"On the one night they were celebrating New Year's Eve ... he was out — ending their life!!!" A switchblade killer with a Stan Laurel mask and the vocal delivery of Paul Harvey calls up the punk rock DJ known as Blaze Sullivan, and tells her he's going to kill people in the hours leading up to New Year's Eve. Such is the slimness — and sliminess — of the reed on which hangs the plot of the grimy slasher film classic New Year's Evil (1981), the trailer for which was really scary if you were 11 and had never seen either punk rockers or slasher movies before. It'd make a great double-bill with Bloody New Year (1987) or Terror Train (1980), both slasher movies set on New Year's Eve — or this year's rom-com New Year's Eve, a film in which only the actors' careers die.
