Graffiti Gourmet (Does Anyone Get That Joke? Eydie Gorme? Anyone?)

In 2008, Italian street artist Blu created an incredible film called Muto. It's a stop-motion collage of his images played out over multiple buildings across a bustling cityscape. Blu's message was that each building represents a chapter in a larger story, and only by fully experiencing the city up close can you understand the story it's trying to tell you. In a similar vein, Street Art Saved My Life: 39 NYC Stories, an exhibition curated by Jaime Rojo and Steven Harrington, co-founders of BrooklynStreetArt.com, is a new attempt at something approaching that ideal. With its 39 steps culled from all over the five boroughs — work by artists including Clown Soldier, Dan Witz, Gilf!, Judith Supine, Miss Bugs, Specter, Sweet Toof and White Cocoa — it's a slice of life that's happening as I type and you read. All you have to do is go outside and start looking around.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Aug. 12. Continues through Sept. 5, 2011
