Get a Peck on the Cheep
If a pricey, heart-shaped box of chocolates and a dozen red roses are out of the question for your sweetie this Valentine's Day, do the next best thing: Take a hike. No, don't leave the relationship. Go on the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society Bird Walk for a romantic trek through the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve with your honey. You'll wind through trails, stroll by a glistening lake and see lots of winged creatures, which will be pointed out to you by an appointed guide who's also a bird expert. This walk is specifically designated for beginners who want to breathe fresh air, appreciate nature, amble at a leisurely pace and gain knowledge of our feathered friends. Earn V-Day points by prepping your partner with tips to make the day that much more enjoyable: Wear a brimmed hat, sturdy shoes and layered clothing. A bottle of water couldn't hurt, either. If you don't own binoculars, there will be some available to borrow. Who knows? You might spot some lovebirds. Woodley Park, 6350 Woodley Ave. (southeast entrance of the wildlife area), Van Nuys; Sat., Feb. 11, 9 a.m.; free. (310) 457-5796, sfvaudubon.org.
