DOUBLE BILL (& TED)

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was justifiably a massive hit, a perfectly timed nugget of '80s culture mashed up with sci-fi adventure. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was not a hit. In fact, it's often cited on "most disappointing sequels" lists. But those people are crazy: Whereas Excellent Adventure is still a delightful romp, Bogus Journey is no less entertaining in its gleeful weirdness, and it's the more inventive of the two movies. That sequence where the guys are trapped in their childhood nightmares is as trippy as a proto-Inception, and quite a bit funnier -- particularly Alex Winter playing his own decrepit grandmother. And you can ask Bill S. Preston Esq. all about it, because Winter will appear at the New Beverly Cinema this week for the Bill & Ted Double Feature . Come armed with questions and an insatiable desire to party on, dudes. New Beverly Cinema, 7165 Beverly Blvd., L.A.; Sun.-Mon., Aug. 29-30, 7:30 p.m.; $7. (323) 938-4028; newbevcinema.com.
