Deals on Wheels
Women buy handbags and shoes. Men buy cars. And if that's too much politically incorrect stereotyping for you, check out how many people with the XY chromosome are in attendance at Auctions America this weekend and how few XXs are wandering haplessly about. However, as the first L.A.-based event for this auction house, this auto-buying extravaganza could prove interesting for all -- even if there's nary a DSW in sight. More than 400 collector cars go on the block, including hot rods, cool customs, muscle cars, turn-of-the century models, European racing cars, motorcycles and vehicles with a Hollywood twist. Maybe you'd like to get your mitts on a completely restored 1958 Mercury Voyager station wagon like the one Grandma used to drive? Or the 1995 Eddie Bauer edition of the Ford Bronco (not, incidentally, the one that O.J. made famous, although negative PR from his escapades did play a role in the model's discontinuation). Or try for a piece of Hollywood history by bidding high on the 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle owned by Steve McQueen. Jay Leno will be on hand as a commentator for NBC Sports. Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank; Fri., Aug. 2, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. (doors open 8 a.m.); Sat., Aug. 3, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; $20 entry, $100 bid registration, children under 12 free. (888) 990-3910, auctionsamerica.com.
Fri., Aug. 2, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 3, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., 2013
