Dead, Deader, Deadest? You Decide!
There are probably very, very few Evil Dead fans who will argue against the second installment in the series Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn, with its brilliantly honed low-budget splatter, gleefully acrobatic camera moves, and inspired Stooges-esque slapstick (yes, you just heard "inspired" and "Stooges" in the same sentence) being the best. Where the rankings go from there is a little bit sketchy; some die-hards who were with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell from the beginning are loyal to the extremely-low-budget, occasionally not-so-funny and flat-out disturbing original. (Tree rape, people. Still oogy after all these years.) Meanwhile, those who were introduced to the series via the slightly more mainstream (and we mean slightly) medieval madness of Army of Darkness might insist that the sheer bravado of the Deadite army is worthy of the silver medal. You can judge for yourself this weekend as the New Beverly screens the entire Evil Dead trilogy for a measly 10 bucks admission. That's more undead gore than should be legal for $3.33 cents per installment. Get some.
