Dancescape

From bellydance to ballet and everything in between, Dancescape is about to give Los Angeles a multifaceted dance experience focused on passion and positive change. The benefit dance concert was created by Jamie Gregor in 2004 for two reasons: to create an opportunity for the those who hadn't had a chance to shine in the competitive world of dance, and to support the arts in education. "Funding for arts was getting cut in schools," Gregor says. "We had everything as kids, and as an adult I realize how important the arts were. I wanted to create opportunities for dancers and choreographers to give back to the community as well." For its 10th-anniversary celebration, Dancescape will feature original works from more than 25 choreographers and companies in varied styles, including hip-hop, burlesque, traditional Indian, even martial arts. With more than 200 dancers - among them Alex Little, Colabo Youth Dance Collective and dance prodigy Sophia Lucia - taking the stage, it will be hard not to be inspired. All proceeds will be donated to DonorsChoose.org to help ensure that art, music and dance will be preserved in the Los Angeles education system. Club Nokia, 800 W.
