CIRQUE DU CIENEGA
Who would go to a show that you don't understand the name of? Yet people pay scads of money every day for Cirque du Soleil's extravaganzas with nutsy monikers like Kooza, Quidam, Ka and Dralion. For all we know, any of those combined could be code for the next terrorist plot. But if you like those pricey European-inspired spectacles but don't want to schlep to locales like Vegas, New York and (egads) Quebec, zip on over to le boulevard Cienega to see an intimate combo of circus stunts and vaudeville with a name you can comprehend: Your Town Follies. This inventive mix of top-notch cabaret, acrobats, comique performers, jugglers, hula-hoopers, absurdities, vaudeville, wild music, magic, fantastic feats and dare-devilry offers Cirque-like showmanship thanks to director Stefan Haves, who logged in time as Cirque's creator and comic-act designer. Get up-close and personal in this 300-seat theater with stilt walkers, contortionists and pancake handlers (maple syrup, anyone?). A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: June 27. Continues through Aug. 29, 2010
