Cedar lake Ballet
Possibly the most European ballet company based in the U.S., New York's Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet has etched a niche with an ensemble of strong, physical dancers who can move from pointe shoes to writhing on the floor in the same breath and a repertoire emphasizing new works from mostly non-American choreographers. This visit offers a first look at several new works officially being premiered next month in the company's New York season. Regina van Berkel's "Simply Marvel" is the only repeat both nights here. Friday includes "Grace Engine" from Crystal Pite and Hubbub from Alexander Ekman. Saturday's show includes Hofesh Schecter's "Violet Kid" and Ekman's "Tuplet." Go to www.cedarlakedance.com for video previews. For the real thing go to UCLA Royce Hall, Wstwd.; Fri.-Sat., April 27-28, 8 p.m.; $25-$50. (310) 825-2101 or www.uclalive.org/tickets/.
Fri., April 27, 8 p.m.; Sat., April 28, 8 p.m., 2012
