With its title taken from a famous quote from the legendary choreographer, Balanchine - See the Music Hear the Dance offers a triptych of Balanchine masterworks. Of special interest are the company premieres of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.2 and Kammermusik No.2, two works seldom seen outside of New York City Ballet. It's a tribute to the regard LAB directors Thordal Christensen and Colleen Neary, as well as their dancers, are held that the Balanchine Trust extended permission for these challenging ballets. The program opens with the reprise of rapturous Serenade for which LAB received rave reviews in the companys debut season. The program offers snapshots of Balanchine's career arc, Serenade was Balanchine's first complete ballet after he came to the U.S., Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2 is a mid-point in his career and Kammermusik No. 2 is one of his last masterpieces. With performances at three different local venues, lots of opportunity to catch up with L.A. own professional ballet company in a most ambitious program.
