BEST TREY MACABRE
Despite having choreographed for the who's who of U.S. and international ballet companies, Trey McIntyre was unknown in Southern California when his company made its local debut at last year's Laguna Beach Dance Festival. His brand of highly athletic yet musical choreography, embodied by his astonishing dancers, was quite the hit of the festival. The dance-maker returns with his Trey McIntyre Project for a weeklong residency at Orange County Performing Arts Center, which includes workshops and two performances with all tickets priced at $10. In addition to a world premiere commissioned for the OCPAC's community plaza, the program inside the theater includes "The Sun Road," which interplays live dance with video of the dancers in Glacier National Park (serious); a trio set to music by Henry Cowell, and "Ma Maison," which creates a macabre carnival with dancers garbed in skeleton masks, accompanied by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. While a bit early for Halloween, don't miss the chance to see this dance company's tricks. It's a treat!
