Benson Goes Ape

Doug Benson is the lovable stoner behind the movie Super High Me, as well as stints on Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sarah Silverman Show and (if you go way back) Mr. Show. He's a prolific couch potato, too, and connoisseur of schlock — a formidable combo that has made his year-old experiment, Doug Benson's Movie Interruption, so successful. For those unfamiliar, here's the deal with the interruption: Doug and friends chill on the couches up in the front of the theater and unrelentingly mock the films being screened. The audience behind laughs until they blow popcorn out their noses. Remember Mystery Science Theater 3000? It's like that, except this one's not as annoying, doesn't involve robots and Benson's way-funny, dorm-room potty humor slays. Benson brings some stellar comedic guests along, too. In the past, he has hosted folks like Patton Oswalt, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Adam Carolla. Tonight, the mocking will focus on the recent summer blockbuster Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which is not as delectably camp-tastic as the Charlton Heston version but will suffice, compliments of an overly earnest James Franco and the scene on the Golden Gate Bridge, where the apes take on a mess of San Francisco cops. Expect ape catcalls, bestiality references, simian mimicry, Charlton Heston impressions and loads more. Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre, 611 N.
